Pottery for a Cure:

A Fundraiser for Castleman Disease Research

I was first diagnosed with Castleman's Disease in June 2012. At the time it was very confusing as there was little to no information available about this disease and the information which was available, wasn’t always correct. Because of that, I kept the knowledge of my disease to myself and shared it with only close friends and family. I didn’t want people to misunderstand it or make false assumptions that could affect my reputation or career.

It wasn’t until after 2013 that I started to understand the severity of it. After getting in contact with other people also diagnosed with CD (Castleman's disease)  through the International Castleman's Foundation, I finally found research and information. They helped me find a specialist at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, whom I see regularly for treatment.

Being one of the few people diagnosed with this illness in this world is terrifying and I fear the real toll of this disease has yet to be realized by family, friends, close community, and myself.

I attempt to cope with this terminal illness by immersing myself into my artwork. I have been a practicing artist and educator for quite some time and have recently rediscovered that art is my therapy. The artwork I create focuses on my interpretation of illness, mortality and the historic symbolism behind it. I also use ceramics as a form of relaxation and a way of contributing to more research. I am in the process of creating and designing pottery and giving all proceeds to help forward the research behind this disease.

Castleman's Disease Collaborative Network is a global initiative dedicated to accelerating research and treatment for the most deadly, most common disease that you have never heard of: Castleman's disease. We all need to join together to raise the funds to take down this disease!
