Walking In My Shoes.
A Guerilla Art Project
The purpose of the Walking in My Shoes Art Project is to promote positive awareness and the diversity of individuals and their unique and inspiring contributions to our world. In Emily Boulger's art classes at various locations for over the past ten years she has collaborated with students on this project. Over the decade this project has taken on various forms.
Currently, Emily's students at Shoe Town Art Center are painting and decorating shoes. The shoes are meant to symbolize each student as an individual regardless of ability and showcase their talents.
On the bottom of each shoe is a sticker, that provides a link a website describing the project. You will also find, on the bottom of the shoes a partial picture of the student with a small mirror covering their head. This is so when the observer looks at the student’s image they will literally see a reflection of themselves on their body, forcing them to imagine what is is like to be our students, thus seeing themselves in their shoes.
Once the shoes are completed, they are placed in random or intentional various locations, across the community, across the country, across the world. After they are placed in different locations they are meant for the public to pick up, keep, or pass along.
