Beginner Pottery & Ceramics for Adults
This course is for students of all experience levels and will focus on understanding and applying the aesthetics, processes, form, and function of the ceramics art form. Students will learn many of the following skills, handbuilding (pinch & coil), wheelwork (centering, pulling, shaping, attachments, cylinder and bowl forms), glazing, and sculptural (additive, subtractive, positive, negative methods). At minimum, wheel access will be split during each class; each student will have half of the class time of designated wheel access per session. During the adult sessions while students are not accessing the wheel we provide various handbuilding projects and lessons each week.
Intermediate Pottery & Ceramics for Adults
This course will focus on advancing wheel work, handbuilding skills, glazing and decorative techniques learned in the Beginner courses. This class will allow the option for students to choose to focus on one area either handbuilding or wheelwork.
Additional Information about the Courses
These 6-week courses will run within a 8-week flexible time frame of your choice from the time of your first class. Basically, you will pay for and attend 6 classes, but it is up to you what days to come within an eight-week period. We wanted to allow flexibility so adults can attend, but also be able to miss a class when needed. If you happen to have no absences and make it to 8 classes, that's fine too, but we wont let you make up classes unless you miss two or more.
All materials such as clay and basic low fire glaze will be provided with the cost of the course as well as tools. We provide earthenware clay (up to 25 lbs per student and basic low fire glazes, if students want more than 25 pounds of clay or a specific type of glaze that isn’t provided at STAC they may choose to purchase it for extra when we have it in stock, otherwise we can recommend a vendor.
Although there are many days and times to choose from, once you choose one day and time, you can not switch to another one, for example if you choose to register for Tuesday at 7:30, you can not switch to Thursday 7-9 or any other day/ time unless under special circumstances and there is room.
Classes are nonrefundable unless it is canceled 3 weeks prior to the start of the first class. Classes that do not meet the minimum requirement of participants to run will be fully refunded. We need a minimum of 10 students to run the class and have a maximum of 16. You must register and pay to reserve a spot in the course.
