FOUNDATION IN ARTS FOR KIDS

Weekday and Weekend Courses

Foundation in Art for Kids is a small group course designed after the "foundation year" art college students typically experience their freshman year. It is a group class in which potential for creative growth is explored through exposure of a variety of mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery, bookmaking, fiber arts, art games, and much more. This process allows us to teach the students the many ways different mediums can be used as a vehicle to express one's self, while at the same time help our students cultivate a comfortable understanding of multi-media. This class provides both a verbal and non-verbal vehicle to increase insight, develop strengths, learn technical skills and integrate feelings.  Group lessons focus on increasing social pragmatic skills, building interpersonal relationship skills, working as a team, developing knowledge and experience using different fine art mediums as a modality to express one’s self. 

We have rolling admissions for these courses; students can start at any time as long as the course has an opening. The course sessions run one day a week for a total of 6 weeks.


Materials are included in the course fee.

CERAMICS FOR KIDS AND TEENS

This course will focus on understanding and applying the aesthetics, processes, form, and function of the ceramics art form. All students will develop a vocabulary specific to the medium and be aware of the safety issues involved in working with ceramic materials and techniques. Students will learn many of the following skills, hand building (pinch & coil), wheelwork (centering, pulling, shaping, attachments, cylinder and bowl forms), glazing, and sculptural (additive, subtractive, positive, negative methods). 

We have rolling admissions for these courses, students can start at any time as long as the course has an opening. The course sessions run one day a week for a total of 6 weeks.

Coloring in Anime

CHARACTER DESIGN

Ages 6-12
Wednesdays 4- 5:30PM
Wednesday 5:30-7PM
Ages 12-18
Thursday 4- 5:30PM

In this course, students will learn how to design a character and an environment for them to live in. Students will explore different famous character designs along with different genres that they can draw inspiration from. After that, they will learn about anatomy, color schemes, silhouettes, and other essentials for entering the world of character design. We will also practice worldbuilding, or creating a relevant environment for a character to live in. By the end of the course, students will have built a successful, unique character with their own world to live in.


Week One: Intro (quick breakdown of human figure, work on facial proportions/expressions)

Week Two: Review last week 15 mins, brainstorm/show examples/discuss

Week Three: Finalize character concepts, work on a small world for them to live in

Week Four: Begin character turnaround/expression sheet

Week Five: character turnaround/expression sheet/info packet
Week Six: Final concepts/discuss

CERAMICS FOR ADULTS

Tuesdays 6 - 7:30PM

This 6-week course will run a within an 8-week flexible time frame of your choice from the time of your first class. Basically, you will pay for and attend 6 classes, but it is up to you what days to come within an eight-week period. We wanted to allow flexibility so adults can attend, but also be able to miss classes when needed.


This course is for students of all experience levels and will focus on understanding and applying the aesthetics, processes, form, and function of the ceramics art form. Students will learn many of the following skills, hand building (pinch & coil), wheelwork (centering, pulling, shaping, attachments, cylinder and bowl forms), glazing, and sculptural (additive, subtractive, positive, negative methods). 


All materials such as clay and glaze will be provided with the cost of the course.

INCLUSIVE ARTS FOR ADULTS

Weekday Group Course

Inclusive Arts for adults is a group class in which feelings, experiences, and potential for growth are explored through the process of creating a variety of art projects using mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. The process provides both a verbal and non-verbal vehicle to increase insight, develop strengths, and integrate feelings. Group lessons focus on increasing social pragmatic skills, building interpersonal relationship skills, working as a team and using a variety of art mediums as a modality to express one’s self. 

We have rolling admissions for this course; students can start at any time as long as the course has an opening. The course session runs one day a week for a total of 6 weeks.


Materials are included in the course fee.

DRAWING

Ages 12 -18
Group Weekday Course
Thursday 5:30 - 7PM

The coursework follows a sequence of studies that introduces basic drawing techniques, media, and composition through observation and analysis of natural and manufactured forms.  The students will be introduced to a variety of materials used for drawing such as pen and ink, oil pastels, and soft pastels. Students will learn about perspective, contour, gesture, the use of positive/negative space, value line and mass. These modalities will be emphasized in relationship to the design and organization of composition.  Students will draw from observation, still life, landscapes and will learn the principals of human figure and portraiture. Through regular critiques, students will begin to make critical decisions about their work.


Materials are included in the course fee.

ART COLLEGE PORTFOLIO PREPARATION

Private Lesson

We provide private art lessons to students working on art portfolios in which are needed for entrance or either private school, art college, or art concentrations. We provide instruction in compliance of the National AP Art Standards in conjunction with the students' interests and specific needs for each college or private school they are applying to.

Policies

Absences

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy, and therefore require a minimum of a 24 hour notice in order for classes to be made up, otherwise they are considered a no show and forfeited.

Payment 

All classes and sessions must be paid for in full in advance.

Holidays and Vacations

Our Kid and Teen course do not run during Christmas, February or April vacation breaks in accordance to the Haverhill Public School Calendar. ​

Snow Days

WEEKDAYS; When Haverhill Public Schools have snow days all art classes are cancelled.

WEEKENDS; If there is a snow storm and class is cancelled it will be posted on the website and or facebook page.

ALL DAYS We will cancel classes during declared weather emergencies.

Abandoned Artwork

When artwork is left behind after completion for 30 days or more it is considered abandoned.
